Food may be the all-time favorite pastime in Louisiana capital Baton Rouge, yet insiders rank shopping as a close second, with malls, shopping centers, specialty shops, antique stores, and factory outlets all competing for between-meals attention. The Mall of Louisiana, anchored by Dillard’s, Foley’s, McRae’s, JCPenney and Sears, also showcases a carousel. The Mall at Cortana, anchored by Foley’s, Dillard’s, JCPenney’s, and Sears, beckons with service merchants and restaurants. Towne Center at Cedar Lodge, serves as an open-air marketplace of favorites like Ann Taylor Loft, Chico’s and Talbots for luxuries and necessities. Cajun Village, within historic Acadian-style homes restored to house specialty shops such as River Region Art Gallery and Louisiana Pottery, also has a tractor barn and an assortment of live alligators.
Bayou Tobacco is Baton Rouge’s oldest cigar humidor with a full line of tobacco, fine pipes, smoking accessories and in-store pipe repair. Bocage Village features restaurants and an assortment of shops for apparel, home goods, and jewelry. The Greater Baton Rouge Flea Market, near the fairgrounds with some 400 booths, is Louisiana’s largest open-air flea market under one roof. Main Street Market has more nearly two dozen purveyors for home grown produce, flowers, arts, crafts and more, and host’s downtown’s famed Red Stick Farmer’s Market on Saturdays. Louisiana’s largest outlet is Tanger Outlet Center is Louisiana’s largest outlet with more than 50 designer stores including Liz Claiborne, Gap, and Guess.
